Microgaming’s head office is located in the Isle of Man. The gaming software provider began the PlayItForward initiative in 2014, and has donated £30,000 this year. Microgaming has donated to four charities with its Gift of Giving project this year.
Microgaming’s PlayItForward Initiative Donates £30K
Microgaming made the decision to donate £30,000 divided equally for four charities. The company has selected a number of charities that have been classified according to their geographical regions. One company from each region is picked by Microgaming’s players who get to vote for their favourite charities online.
In December 2016, in the Isle of Man region, the Women’s Refuge was chosen. In Africa, players picked the Save the Rhino campaign, and in the UK and Europe, the Teenage Cancer Trust. In the Rest of the World category, Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF) was picked.
The Head of Microgaming PlayItForward, Claire Coleman, commented on the Gift of Giving project: “ Our Gift of Giving programme has now completed its fourth year, and I never tire of picking up the phone to tell the four winning charities they are receiving a donation. A big thanks to all our customers for taking the time to vote; together we are making a difference.”
A representative from the Women’s Refuge in the Isle of Man, Thelma Lomax, was thrilled to accept the donation on behalf of the charity. She said: “The cost of running our charity is expensive, so we are absolutely over the moon to receive £7,500 from Microgaming. In 2016 alone we took 512 calls from local people wanting help or advice, making a refuge on-island an absolute necessity. The donation from Microgaming will ensure we can continue to offer our vital services to the community.”
The donations to the Teenage Cancer Trust, Save the Rhino, and MSF were met with equal enthusiasm. Save the Rhino also received a donation last year, and MSF won a donation in 2014.
